Yes, we want you to come and perform…
The Eclectic Cabaret runs bi-monthly throughout the year, bringing a disparate mix of musicians, comedians, dancers, and poets to Wootton Community Centre, near Abingdon. We take a break in July for the annual WADSStock Festival.
We are currently pulling together the 2019 programme, so be sure to get in touch in good time if you want to perform next year.
We are interested in anything and everything: bands, singer-songwriters, poets, stand-ups, talking heads, circus skills, one-act plays.
For musicians, all styles are welcome: rock, folk, jazz, blues, roots, reggae. We are particularly interested in artistes who want to play original material. The only caveat is the music has to be primarily acoustic-based. If you’re Nirvana, that’s fine but you’re Nirvana unplugged.
For other acts, the essential element is entertainment. We’re interested in the funny and the strange, preferably both at the same time. Moments of pathos are fine but we’re not interested in a 40 minute set of poems about death. Unless they’re funny.
Please note that we are not an open-mic: without exception, all acts are booked in advance. We generally put on four acts in an evening. You have to be of a good standard – we hate to say “no” to people on the basis of, well, them not being terribly good. So, please have some realistic awareness of your abilities.
Because admission is free and we pick up all expenses for providing the PA, lights, and so on, we are unable to pay performers. However, we run a merchandise table at each event and actively push artistes’ CDs, books, tea-towels, and other assorted goodies. Furthermore, you get to perform a decent 40 minute set in front of an appreciative audience.
So, if you’ve read this far and are still interested, please do the following:
- Drop us a line using the form on the Contact Page
- Provide a link to a recording or video of you strutting your stuff
We will respond as soon as we can.
All the best,
Mike & Lynn
